A killer side gig

Yes Inca watchI’ve been working on this for a while, but haven’t mentioned it yet. I’ve got a sorta-informal consultation gig working with Bjorn Kartomten of Yes Watches, working on the design of a new watch.

Yes, this is right up my alley and an absolute delight. I now wish there were more hours in the day!

Anyway, expect a review soon-ish of the current gen Yes (pictured) which Bjorn kindly gave to me. Ahh, a free watch, source of great happiness…

I’m working on a bit of EE as well as component sourcing, (cough) other considerations, much fun. A watch has space and power constraints that are a most interesting challenge. Fun stuff. I met Bjorn when I was having dinner with long-time collaborator Christian Cantrell of WatchReport, turns out that Yes is in La Jolla. Small world, eh?

Update 6/20/08: My review of the Inca is posted here. Enjoy!

Now, that is a pretty watch, at least for a man. I feel as if there should be a lot of clanging bells and loudspeakers yelling, “Dive! Dive!

Martha, you’re exactly right…I can hear the claxon all the way in Illinois. That is one beautiful watch.

Can’t wait to see the results, and hope that you’ll hae a women’s version as well!

Terri, Color is an issue. Somehow pink would be a travesty of engineering. Maybe a baby blue or a lilac? Or how about one where the background changes with the liturgical seasons–the ultimate clerical accessory!? Joke, joke, joke…

There aren’t a lot of tasteful women’s watches, that’s for sure. Hmm, liturgical seasons, interesting idea. The current model is *very* seasonal, with alerts on solstices, so maybe that’s not as crazy as you’d think.

[...] I noted in the previous post, this watch was generously provided by Bjorn Kartomten of Yes Watch, so any editorial impartiality [...]

    I love those watches!
I just had a brief email exchange with Bjorn regarding the imminent arrival of the U103.4. I realize you can’t discuss your collaboration with Yes, but would your project result in an updated successor to the Zulu range or is it a new line completely? I guess I’m just curious about what might be coming down the pipe and what extra features we will see…

And whether I should buy a U103.4 Zulu or wait for something even more spectacular ;)
